The Bowen technique is becoming recognised and acknowledged for its beneficial and far reaching effects on the body. Any human or animal can be treated with Bowen. The effects are wide ranging and it is a particularly gentle treatment for soft tissue injuries such as bad backs and frozen shoulders, and allows the body to realign itself.

There is no force needed by the therapist when treating people or animals and all the moves are very subtle. This does not mean that this therapy is not effective - the effects are wide ranging and often problems which are long standing and which people have adapted to and become "accustomed" to, are helped and eradicated.

Once Bowen is given by a therapist the body being treated will respond at its own pace and in its own way, the therapist has no control over how the body will use it.

It is also particularly effective for horses and proves that the results from Bowen are not just "all in the mind".

Horses respond in an infinite variety of ways, these include:

  • relieving tension and soreness in the body thereby increasing stride length and elevation, thus helping to increase flexibility and suppleness.
  • assisting the lymphatic system by removing toxins and helping to reduce swelling and bruising throughout the body.
  • assisting circulation thereby distributing oxygen and nutrients and helping to facilitate healing of wounds at a faster rate than "normal".
  • when under stress the brain releases stress hormones that can suppress the immune system, and cause the body to become ill. Bowen can help to re establish equilibrium and gives the horses system the opportunity to heal itself.

This may all seem very "new age" but Bowen is a scientific medium. The brain sends out 650,000 electrical impulses a second, and Bowen sends information which gives the brain the opportunity to correct any problems. It also causes the brain to dip down into Alpha wave lengths and facilitates the release of endorphins which induce pain relief and relaxation.

Unconvinced? Why not try the Bowen technique for yourself or your horse? It is particularly beneficial after a fall (on or off your horse!), or if your horse is experiencing health and or gait problems.
